The Golden Voice

Ros Sereysothea, (Sophea Pel) was part of Cambodia’s thriving music scene of the sixties and seventies and one of its biggest rock stars. She was captured in the aftermath of the Khmer Revolution of 1970 and sent to a work camp, here she was discovered and forced to become part of Khmer Rouge’s Communist Propaganda Regime. In 1977 she was forced to marry one of Pol Pot’s assistants; soon after she disappeared, presumed executed in the Killing Fields.

Photographed using 35mm primes lenses and Panasonic cameras. Achieving the period look relied heavily on a classical style of camera direction along with increasing the overall amounts of light in any given scene. Throughout the film we employed different degrees of diffusion in front of the lens and benefited greatly by the depth of field yielded from the Pro35mm Adapter and Prime Lenses.
